Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s Valuable 500 Commitment:

At HPE our purpose is to advance the way people live and work. This is underpinned by a culture that believes in unconditional inclusion and the power of diversity to fuel innovation.

Our HPE Global Disabilities Network is our employee resource group with an explicit purpose of empowering team members who have a disability or have a connection to an individual with a disability. In partnership with our Accessibility Office, they host regular programming throughout the year on a range of topics addressing the needs of our persons with disabilities and the organization to be disability-inclusive.

To better engage and empower the voices of our team members, we hold listening sessions with our diverse communities and our employee resource groups. From our Global Disabilities Network listening session we have identified these commitments to help us push for better and create a workplace that allows all team members to bring their full selves to work:

  1. The HPE Vice President of Real Estate will be engaged in an accessibility review.

  2. Sign-language interpreters will be included in All Team Member meetings, which are held between our Executive Council and all team members of HPE.

  3. HPE’s Chief Information Officer and Chief Diversity Officer will meet with other C-level industry leaders to share best practices to address accessibility needs.

Beyond these commitments, we have several initiatives to help persons with disabilities become employed and have lasting careers at HPE. HPE Able is a centralized program to assist our team members globally with Accessibility providing a one-stop resource to request accommodation and training resources for all team members to learn about disability inclusion.

Our belief of unconditional inclusion also extends unlocking the too often hidden potential neurodiverse and differently abled team members. Historically, our neurodiverse software testers have provided valuable skills and insights to our business. As referenced in the Harvard Business review piece “Neurodiversity as a Competitive Advantage”, one of these team members observed a client’s projects always seemed to go into crisis mode before a launch. Intolerant of disorder, they questioned the company’s tolerance of this. This led the client company to work with the help of our testers to successfully redesign the launch process. It is these and many more moments that consistently speak to why building more inclusive teams is how we can win the right way.

We also recognize and value the unique needs of our customer and partner communities. HPE strives to design, produce, and market products and services that are accessible to the widest intended audience and compatible with common assistive technology (AT) that may be used by a person with a disability.

This commitment includes:

  1. Developing accessibility programs, processes and procedures for products, services and information to meet regulatory and customer driven requirements; and holding product groups and supporting functions accountable for implementing these requirements.

  2. Using global Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) accessibility standards to develop products and services.

  3. Making information about HPE products and services available on demand in an accessible format.

  4. Involving ICT accessibility Subject Matter Experts and when possible persons with disabilities in the product design and development to assist in identifying the requirements for accessible ICT for the markets where product is marketed and sold.

  5. Evaluating ICT and reporting conformance to the applicable standards and guidelines in centralized internal database, for purposes of business record keeping and product accessibility conformance reporting required for certain product sales.

  6. Raising the level of awareness of accessibility issues within HPE and providing Team Members with the training and resources required to design, produce, market, and deliver accessible products and services.

  7. Supporting and contributing to industry standards and guidelines development for ICT accessibility.
