At News UK, we will continue to promote an inclusive and diverse workplace, so that we reflect and represent the whole of society. To help people with visible and non-visible disabilities create careers in the media, and make our content more accessible, we are committed to:

Creating tailored internships. We will offer two paid six-month internships for disabled and neurodiverse talent to improve their chance of breaking into the media industry.

Hosting a disability journalism conference. To better recruit and retain disabled staff, News UK will launch the first-ever disability journalism conference. We will bring together disabled journalists and other experts to discuss the barriers preventing newsrooms from being more reflective of society.

Improve accessibility of our digital products. The UX team at News UK have embedded accessibility and inclusive design into their processes and practices. We are continuing to assess and improve the accessibility of our internal and external digital products, and have created a new research panel.

We will help our people talk about disability with confidence. We will launch an Inclusive Language Guide, based on They will help staff to be more confident when talking and writing about learning disabilities, physical disability, neurodiversity and mental health. The organisations we spoke with include Mencap, Sense, Scope, Autistica, Genius Within and Media Trust.
