Panasonic Group’s Valuable 500 Commitment
Panasonic’s founder Konosuke Matsushita once said, “Every single person has their heaven-sent qualities found in no other, and success in life depends on making the most of our unique qualities.” This ethos is aligned with our values and our participation in the Valuable 500, a global initiative focused on ending disability exclusion. We see this work as a long-term investment in human potential, innovation and fairness.
At Panasonic, we believe in bringing out the full potential of all people and strive for a world where people learn and grow together no matter their differences. Across the globe, we’re advancing this work in the following ways:
- Fostering Career Development: We are cultivating a work environment where all employees, including those with disabilities, can grow and contribute meaningfully. Programs such as Unlock Yourself—designed for employees with disabilities and their supervisors—support career development and foster a workplace culture grounded in mutual understanding and respect.
- Improving Accessibility: Accessibility is more than compliance—it’s about co-creating spaces that reflect lived experience. At Panasonic, employees are encouraged to take the initiative and design workplace accessibility maps that are tailored to meet real needs. Between these efforts and ongoing dialogue with senior management, accessibility remains a shared priority at every level of the organization.
- Building Community and Connection: Employee Resource Groups play a central role in amplifying voices, generating ideas and building belonging. To make the most of everyone’s individual strengths, we are enhancing collaboration with employee resource groups, or ERG. These voluntary groups act as communities bringing together employees who want to share their perspectives and drive improvements in the workplace. In this way, employees can show their individuality and contribute to Panasonic’s success. Another way in which we actively seek direct feedback from employees is by having members of our management team take part in events. Initiatives like ERG-led social impact activities, management engagement in employee events, and internal recognition programs help foster a culture of inclusion, innovation and deepen ties with local communities.
- Establishing Sustainable Pathways for Support: The Japanese government certifies as “special subsidiaries” those subsidiaries that advance inclusion for people with disabilities, offer them long-term support, and promote other sustainable initiatives. This classification is only given to subsidiaries that meet tough criteria, including having people with disabilities make up at least 20% of the total workforce. We are proud that seven of our subsidiaries have already been granted this special subsidiary status.
In addition, we take on technical trainees with disabilities for internships and include those with disabilities among the junior and high school students that we accept for work study programs.
Our Commitment: We at the Panasonic Group believe that each and every person holds the power to shape the future. We will be a pioneer and lead the charge to create a world that values diversity, including active participation by people with disabilities, and where each individual can fulfill their maximum potential.
We will do everything we can to bring about a world where we all respect one another, understand the perspective of those with disabilities, and make the most of everyone’s unique qualities.
